IT’S A COVER UP

-

May is Melanoma Awareness Month, and as the weather warms up walkers are especially at risk of sun damage, with long hours spent outdoors. Research has found that men are especially bad at protecting and checking their skin. In the UK, almost two men die from skin cancer for every one woman – and it is largely preventable. Here are a few tips…

■ Cover exposed skin with high SPF suncream before you set off and reapply it every few hours.

■ Don’t forget your head and neck.

A broad brim hat is the only style approved by Australian regulators for sun protection.

■ Wear clothing with high SPF.

A regular white cotton t-shirt only has the equivalent protection of SPF 5.
