“Did you know the Hanging Gate inn at Higher Sutton is at the summit of Everest? Earlier in the year we decided to add up the mileage and feet of ascent from all our lockdown walks so far, and today was our final #everestanywhere walk – and the Hanging Gate was bang on 8848m, which is the height of Everest above sea-level. Although it was shut the owners Hilary and James were still hard at work, and they gave us some lovely flowers and a bottle of Prosecco, which was a lovely gesture! We’ve not been able to walk too far from home during this difficult time, but we’ve been amazed at how quickly the miles added up. We have done 230.5 miles on 34 walks, with 27 visits to the Plague Stone, and clocked up 8980m of ascent – which is 5.5 miles high. Hopefully see you soon at the pub at the top of Everest.”
