PARAMO CASCADA II TROUSERS £155

An extremely comfortable pair of outdoor trousers that also happen to be fully waterproof, thanks to Paramo’s Nikwax Analogy system, the Cascada IIs scored highly in Trail’s winter walking trousers test last year. The excellent cut largely overcomes their lack of stretch, and while the fabric perhaps isn’t the burliest, for big hillwalking days rather than technical scrambles, they’re still a superb choice. The Cascadas have become one of my favourite bits of general hillwalking gear.

VERDICT Waterproof trousers that you can wear all day long but which feel like you’re wearing pyjamas.
