The Cleveland Way
The Cleveland Way runs for 110 miles from Helmsley to Filey in North Yorkshire. The trail follows the edge of the North York Moors National Park and is a walk of two parts. The first section favours high moorland terrain and sticks close to the escarpment edge of the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors. When the Way reaches Saltburn-on-Sea, the trail heads southerly and follows the coast. Most people tackle it in the way indicated above, and if you give it a go in early September you get the heather colouring the moors for the first half of your week and the often blue skies that early autumn brings to the coastal section of this trek. The Cleveland Way is very well marked, and paths and tracks are good and easy to follow. However, there are many remote stretches and although accommodation is good, it sometimes has to be carefully planned to make sure it is close enough to the end of each day’s section. There are baggage transfer services available.
