WHAT YOU TOLD US...

We asked Trail’s Facebook followers how they feel about walking in the hills alone.

Helen Allman

“I do most of my walking alone, and although I always feel a little guarded if I meet other people, I feel safer than if I was at a festival, for example. Wild camping isn’t permitted in most of the places I walk, but I prefer to be locked in my van overnight anyway.”

Carol Stubbs

“I walk solo practically all of the time, and always wild camp on my own. Never felt unsafe – I feel safer in the hills than anywhere else!”

Alexandra Arntsen

“I walk solo a lot, and feel safe doing so. I always tell someone where I’m going, with a rough idea of the route. I don’t wild camp alone, as I would feel unsafe (sadly). I have recently got a dog, which makes me more likely to camp alone, as she would warn me if anyone approached.”
