1:12,500 MAPS

-

The 1:12,500 scale is used for Harvey Summit maps covering a 4x3km area, and is good for very fine navigation, finding your way in poor visibility or locating scrambles. The Ben Nevis map is especially good for this, with all the main crags on the North Face marked. It’s intended to be used alongside a smaller scale map covering the wider area, but in some cases might have all the information you need.

Each CONTOUR on 1:12,500 represents 15m, with 75m index contours.

GREEN GRID SQUARES (8x8mm) indicate 100m2. GREY GRID SQUARES (8x8cm) indicate 1km2. 1mm on the map = 12.5m on the ground.

RIGHTS OF WAY are red dotted lines.

OTHER PATHS are shown as black dashes. Intermittent paths are shown with intermittent dashes.

OPEN ACCESS

Not shown, but on this concise square of high ground almost everywhere is open access anyway.

FENCE/WALL LINES All marked.

VEGETATION Tree cover and marshy ground, which, with this close detail, is marked very precisely.

ROCK DETAIL As with all Harvey maps, grey contours indicate bare or predominantly rocky ground. Boulder fields, scattered rock and significant individual boulders are also marked and major crags are marked and named – fantastic for climbers and scramblers.
