Deuter Speed Lite 24 £85

Thanks to the use of the tough and tear-proof 100D fabric (a lighter weight version of Deuter’s polyamide 330D/250D textile) this is the lightest pack in our final six. It is an unashamed summer pack, even offering a dedicated sunglasses holder on the left shoulder strap!

Its V-shaped athletic design includes a mesh back panel which sits close to the body (preferable for more technical walks or scrambling) while allowing some air circulation. The padding on the waistbelt and shoulder straps is also ventilated for a more breathable harness system. Webbing loops and bungee cords provide stowage options for telescopic walking poles, and the webbing daisy chains to offer additional attachment points for extra kit.

Two stretchy side pockets, a small zipped pocket on each hip fin and an expandable stretch pouch offer further exterior kit carrying options, along with a zipped pocket for valuables and an internal hydration pouch.

IF WE’RE BEING FUSSY…

The hip pockets are a little snug, struggling to take a smartphone. With a full pack the side pockets are also tight; a Nalgene bottle will only just fit. The upper cinch straps get in the way of the main zip slightly and there’s no raincover included. There are also no size options.
