Montane Azote 25 £90
Fast and light is Montane’s thing, so it’s no surprise that the Azote is one of the lightest packs here. What is surprising is that despite this it offers lots of features including a size adjustable back system so most users can get the perfect fit.
Ventilated channels on the ZephyrAD back system provide some airflow, while the articulated hip fins (with good-sized pockets) and formfitting shoulder straps make the pack a comfortable carry.
An external bladder sleeve makes it possible to top up your water without having to unpack the main compartment, while side wand pockets, a front stretch pouch and a zipped security pocket with a clip provide additional storage.
A webbing loop serves as pole attachment point, utilising the side compression strap of the pack to hold the poles in place, and can be tucked away when not in use.
IF WE’RE BEING FUSSY… Everything’s just a little a bit fiddly. The pole loop is a tad awkward, the cords on the zip pulls are frustratingly thin, and the stretch pouch panel has a plastic clip thing that doesn’t seem to serve a purpose. You’ll either love or hate the Click & Go chest strap system, but I wasn’t keen. It’s also not the most ventilated back system.

Verdict
Light and well featured, weight-focused walkers will like the performance but may find the design frustrating.
