Osprey Talon 22 £115

-

The Talon and Tempest range of bags have always been popular and it’s easy to see why; there’s pretty much everything a walker could want on this pack.

For starters, it’s available in two different sizes, both of which are adjustable so you’re almost guaranteed the perfect fit. There’s a stretch panel with a simple buckle closure, two stretch side pockets with cinch straps, internal and external zipped top pockets, two good sized waistbelt pockets and a stretch pocket on one shoulder strap for sunglasses or a compass (it’s a little too snug for a phone or GPS device).

There’s a loop and bungee pole attachment, plus Osprey’s Stow on the Go system which lets you quickly tuck your poles away under one arm without having to take the pack off.

The external hydration sleeve provides access to a bladder without having to rummage in the main compartment and a helmet clip offers an external attachment point for vented cycle or climbing helmets.

IF WE’RE BEING FUSSY… It’s the most expensive on test and doesn’t include a raincover. The Stow on the Go system doesn’t work with folding poles, and the helmet clip is an unsightly addition if not required (although it can be removed).
