Terra Nova Laser Compact
All Season 1 £500
Excellent weather protection, premium design, fully-featured, compact pack-away Expensive, average headroom, liveability not amazing
This tent is not for the casual, fair-weather camper. Instead it’s designed for the wild camping aficionado who wants to venture into the mountains all year round, no matter how atrocious the weather.
Classified as 4-season ready by Terra Nova, the Laser Compact All Season 1’s weatherproofing is the best out of all eight tents in this test: you get a super-strong 70-denier groundsheet with 10,000mm hydrostatic head rating, a robust 30-denier flysheet with 5000mm rating, fully taped seams, and a tried and tested low profile that’s stable in strong winds.
Other premium features include magnetic closure of the door’s stormflap, high quality main zipper, hooded vent on the flysheet, extra guylines for increased sturdiness, and good clearance between the fly and inner.
The interior is comfortable enough with decent space for one and a vestibule for your backpack and wet gear – but for £500 it’d be nice to have more headroom and better liveability. This is the compromise you pay for bombproof credentials.
The low-profile, streamlined design inevitably results in an aggressively tapered interior. But you can’t have it all. This is still an excellent, fully-featured tent for 4-season use.

Verdict
A strong and weatherproof 4-season tent with premium features – but it’s expensive.
