Ever since we launched Trail’s MOUNTAIN PHOTO OF THE YEAR competition in 2014, the standard of entries seems to have got better and better. Picking one winner from last year’s final shortlist seemed almost unfair, because every one of the 15 pics would have been a worthy champ. But it was David Gilligan who took the title with this dreamy starlit shot on Castell y Gwynt in Snowdonia, and when you look at all the components that give this shot such instant impact it’s not hard to see why.
