A direct approach from Borrowdale that gains the eastern shoulder of Dale Head via the steep scree of Tongue

Gill and Rigghead. From Rosthwaite, follow the minor road south-west past the car park, then join the path that heads north-west to cross the River Derwent at New Bridge. Across the bridge turn south-west then west along the Rigghead path. This climbs steeply up Tongue Gill and is followed to the col by Dale Head Tarn. Head south-west to the tarn, then climb the steep summit slopes west to gain Dale Head’s summit.
