DALEHEAD CRAGS

-

MEDIUM ■ 2½ hours ■ 5.3km ■ 655m ascent

Start Little Town, grid ref NY235195

Terrain Steep-sided valley, steep corrie, narrow summit ridge

This is an impressive mountain route that gets you up close to the dramatic rock scenery of Dalehead Crags. From Little Town take the valley bottom path south to a junction at the base of Castle Nook. Take the right fork and head south-south-west across the beck, then on towards the base of Dalehead Crags. There are scrambling routes through the crags (including a cracking Grade 1 on Dale Head Pillar if you like damp rock and exposure) but to keep it as a walk, take the well-graded mining path to the west of the crags that zigzags upwards and across the top of the crags, before turning south-west to Dale Head’s summit.
