I like the Hanwag Banks GTX because they're a solid all-rounder, striking a good balance between lightweight comfort and sturdy support. I find that they're not as stiff as other ‘proper’ mountain boots, meaning they're comfier with improved dexterity and give, yet the moderately firm midsole, high-ankled cut, hardened heel cup and reinforced toe box still provide enough rigidity and protection.

VERDICT A comfortable boot that’s supportive, protective and waterproof – a reliable all-rounder for 3-season use.
