The Speed GTX is one of the most recent incarnations of Merrell’s Moab range of footwear. As the name suggests, it’s been designed for fast movers, but you don’t need to be a speed-hiker (I’m not) to appreciate the benefits of the trainer-like comfort. Despite the flash look, these are no fashion lightweights (although they are lightweight). The Gore-Tex lining keeps out all but over-the-ankle water ingress and the beefy Vibram sole offers plenty of grip.

VERDICT A super alternative to boots for speedy hikers and slower movers who appreciate comfort.
