DAY 2

SK209639 Cross the 1 River Bradford and head upstream on its

south bank. Pass a couple of millponds, then go through a gate.

SK199636 Fork right 2 over a river bridge, then left past a small stone structure. Zigzag up through woodland, then take a road right. After roughly 400m, take a shortcutting footpath left and up to a higher road. Ignore the footpath opposite, bend left then

take a footpath right.

3

SK198641 Head uphill, gradually away from the road then steeply uphill, bending right to a small gate at the top corner. A path and track leads to a road by Moor Lane car park.

SK194644 Head 4 left along the lane, then cross an oblique road junction, taking a footpath roughly north-west through fields to the edge of Low Moor Wood. Skirt the top edge of the woods then across two more fields, bending right around a farm (Calling Low) and through a small area of woodland.

SK179650 5 Emerge into fields with a wider view over

Upper Lathkilldale. Descend to the wooded edge of Cales Dale, where steps zigzag steeply to the valley floor. Cross straight over

(towards One Ash Grange), then bend left under a craggy outcrop. Rise up rough limestone steps then cross a field of rough pasture to steps up beside a barn. Follow LW/ Monyash waymarkers through the farm.

SK168652 Bend 6 right with the farm track into fields by a tall tree stump, then roughly follow the wall line on your left, crossing it occasionally. Cross a field near the head of Fern Dale, then a walled path becomes a track (Milkings Lane). Fork right, then continue ahead on roads to the village green crossroads.

SK149665 Take 7 Chapel Street out of the village and ignore a side-turn to Sheldon. Turn left by a lone row of houses onto a track and stay right of a lone barn then down a walled lane to fields. Cross one field

diagonally right, then a field edge leads to a farm track then a road (Mycock Lane). Turn right on the road and to a T-junction.

SK136683 The 8 official route becomes very on-road here, so instead take a footpath ahead, just left of Flagg Hall’s driveway. Pass left of the farm, then head roughly north through fields. Go right along a lane, then take a footpath left into fields. After roughly 200m, go right through a set-back gate in the wall, then roughly north-east to a T-junction of roads.

SK143704 Head 9 north on road, then fork right onto a narrow walled track and down to Taddington. Head left on the road through the village, then rightwards through the churchyard to a gate in its far corner. Follow a wooden fence to dual carriageway (A6) and cross with extreme care!

SK140713 Turn right 10 on a green lane

paralleling the road. Cross a field diagonally to a narrow corner. Go left through two gates, then down a shallow valley. Bend right of a barn, cross a grassy track then go steeply uphill through rough pasture to a lane. Turn right on this, right by Schoolhouse Farm, then left by Lydgate Farm onto track towards Millersdale.

SK139726 On a 11 sharp bend left, take a footpath right across fields, then (v steeply) down steps through muddy woodland, merging left with another track near the bottom. Turn right along a road, pass under Millersdale viaduct. Ignore a right turn to Litton Mill.

SK142733 Fork left 12 up an unsigned tarmac track (Meadow Lane), then fork very sharply back left onto a bridleway track. Bend left through Monks Dale Farm, then turn left at a junction of bridleways at SK138744. Fork right onto a PNFA signed footpath to Tideswell, then fork second left onto a track. Head downhill to Summer Cross road.
