Beinn Eighe
TORRIDON
Beinn Eighe is far more than just the sum of its two Munros. Indeed, I think of it as an entire mountain range in miniature. With its Alpineesque corries, shattered ridges and ancient forests, it feels like somewhere that would reward a lifetime of exploration with a camera. While I love spending time high up on the mountain itself, my favourite viewpoint to photograph Beinn Eighe is actually from neighbouring Beinn a’ Chearcaill. From here, you get the best seat in the house on a summer evening, when the light of the sunset fills the enormous corries of Beinn Eighe. Taking centre stage is the view of Triple Buttress of Coire Mhic Fhearchair – arguably the most impressive corrie in the UK.
WALK IT
Beinn Eighe is a truly special place. Somewhere to be saved for a day of fine weather. For the best possible experience, I would recommend the full traverse from east to west, starting up the Black Carls ridge scramble (Grade 1), and finishing with a descent into Coire Mhic Fhearchair before the walk out. This is a long day with many miles of rough terrain, but it is a route which will stay with you for a long time.
