BANNERDALE CRAGS
MEDIUM ■ 3 hours ■ 6.2km ■ 760m ascent
Start Mungrisdale, NY362303 Terrain Broad river valley, grassy slopes, open grassy countryside, steep and loose slate, plateaued mountaintop
This unusual, quiet and interesting approach starts from the small village of Mungrisdale and first follows the River Glenderamackin, before breaking right above Bannerdale Beck to rise up the hillside and pass between Bannerdale Crags and Bowscale Fell.
The walking is never challenging as you head cross-country towards the northern slopes of Atkinson Pike, where the ascent becomes more rocky and loose. You get seldom-seen views of Sharp Edge from the north on the final pull up, before a short stroll south to the summit.
