HALL’S FELL RIDGE

-

MEDIUM (Grade 1 scramble) ■ 2 hours ■ 2.6km ■ 715m

Start Threlkeld, NY324255

Terrain Good paths to start, short woodland section, steep hillside, rocky ridge, plateaued mountaintop

From the eastern edge of Threlkeld, follow the road to the path just south of Gategill, which leads to the base of Hall’s Fell. The early ascent is steep and always interesting, with views of Doddick Fell and Scales Fell as you kink left for the final pull to the ridge proper. The final half-mile of Hall’s Fell Ridge (a low Grade 1 scramble) is as good as Lakeland walking gets, with rock towers, steps and edges offering the chance to get your hands dirty. It should present no difficulties for experienced walkers who don’t mind a bit of exposure, and the ridge finishes right at Blencathra’s 868m summit.
