“Your stories have given me hope”

The Mountains for the Mind Facebook group is a supportive, inspirational community of 16,000 people just like you. We hear so many stories of social media being bad for your mental health, which is why we’re proud to have created such a positive online environment.

“Two years ago I’d just completed the Walk the Walk half marathon, I spent my weekends walking in the Pentland Hills and I worked a physical job. Then, six months later, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder. Since it affected my mobility, my walking ceased and I experienced huge grief at the loss of my walks. There were some pretty dark days of coming to terms with evolving symptoms because the brain is such a complex thing, it can do as it pleases all at my expense.

“But today I finally made it back to my beloved Pentlands! Last night, I could only compare my excitement of today’s walk to Christmas! It wasn’t even a hill walk, but I took walking poles with me just in case. Amazingly, I didn’t need them. I may not climb mountains, but the stories shared here have given me so much hope that I can and will get back to walking more regularly. Something so simple can give us so much.”
