Tough trousers

These are, without doubt, hardworking trousers. They have so many features I barely have room to describe them all, but here are the headlines… They’re made from 4-way stretch Nikwax Wind Resistor fabric, which is like a lightweight soft shell. They kept me warm and dry on a cold, windy and sleety mountain top; and in showery weather I didn’t need waterproof trousers at all. Dyneema reinforced panels provide extra protection on the seat, knees (with removable foam inserts for anyone spending time kneeling), and ankles (to protect from crampons), so they’re super hard-wearing and protective. Long thigh zip vents allow easy temperature control. There are four cavernous pockets, and the ankle width is adjustable – also useful with crampons. Given their crampon-friendly design features, Paramo weirdly describes them as 3-season trousers. But for me they make great comfy winter trousers, with extra warmth and protection for when you’re moving in the mountains.
