Boots built to last

Scarpa R-Evo GTX £210

-

The Scarpa R Evo GTX are my go-to hillwalking boots and they are yet to let me down. If the conditions are wet, I know that these boots will keep my feet dry. I have worn them many times in the snow and have never got cold or wet feet. They excel on wet and muddy terrain, with good grip both uphill and down.

Even when stepping into deep mud or water, the high ankle and memory foam padding provide a good seal to stop the boot becoming swamped. The extra height on the ankle is great for support when walking over rough terrain and for protection when scrambling. The only downside is that the memory foam around the ankle does compress a little, and after a couple of miles a re-tie can be needed.

Most of my walking is in the Galloway Hills, all year round. And over the past 18 months I have completed three Everest Anywhere challenges (see page 115) wearing them, walking a combination of fire roads, mountain trails, and open moorland.

I have recommended them to my brother-in-law after he got fed up with wet feet, and he is similarly impressed. Only now after five years of use am I looking to replace them, as the sole is becoming worn flat. The uppers are in great condition with no splits or stitch fails. I regularly brush clean and reproof to maintain. Previous boots did not last nearly as long, wearing through the soles in half the time.

It’s safe to say I will be purchasing another pair to replace these, as nothing has performed as well and for as long as the Scarpa

R-Evo GTX!
