THE OLD FORGE KNOYDART
When it comes to must-visit pubs, The
Old Forge has just got to be on the list. As mainland Britain’s most remote pub, it is situated on the Knoydart peninsula in the north-west of Scotland between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn. It’s an arduous
2- or 3-day walk from the nearest road, 18 miles away, in the tiny coastal village of Inverie. Fortunately, there’s a ferry service, which offers an easier way to tackle Knoydart’s three Munros and wild walking country, with a surprisingly large range of accommodation options for such a wild place. The local community has just won a grant to help buy the pub, which has won numerous accolades for its great food, atmosphere and stunning location.
