Donate your unwanted kit

-

If you’d rather get rid of your old gear than buy a load more, there’s a way you can pass it on to people who may not have the funds to buy it. Kitsquad was founded in 2019 by Mountains for the Mind member Fran Pearson, who wanted to offer a fresh start to retired outdoor kit.

“Kitsquad was started with the aim of recycling donated secondhand adventure gear, then passing it onto low-income individuals to enable them to get out into the great outdoors,” says Fran. “The scheme has been running for two years now, solely on word of mouth. It’s become clear there is a need for this, so now is the right time to start publicising Kitsquad, allowing us to reach more people who currently aren’t engaging in outdoor activities due to lack of gear or funds.

“At the moment we’re really busy supplying DofE students with the right kit for their expeditions. We’ve also helped people with disabilities, people planning their first wild camp, and families who want to start day hiking together.

“If you have some outdoor gear you are able to donate, please get in touch. Or, if you are a low-income individual who needs gear, we’d love to hear from you too.”
