Bye soggy toes
Geckowear Knee Length Ultimate Waterproof Socks £40
I tried a pair of waterproof football socks about 10 years ago, and after cooking my shins for the first 20 minutes of a wet and windy match, ripped them off and wrote the idea off as a bad job. But fast-forward to this winter and my habit of leaning towards lightweight footwear means I’m quite often out walking on boggy trails without waterproof shoes, so I decided to give the idea a second chance. These 3-layer socks have a tough outer shell, a waterproof liner in the middle, and a soft(ish) seamless inner next to your skin for comfort. I’ve walked a lot in them throughout the winter in everything from lightweight hiking boots to leaky old trainers and haven’t had a drop of water touch my feet. They seem much more breathable than my sweaty old footy socks, I haven’t noticed a drop-off in comfort, and they wash well too. I’m very close to becoming a convert.
Verdict
If waterproof boots aren’t your thing, then these socks probably should be.
