■ When out on Dartmoor do not touch any military debris you find as it may be dangerous. Please note the location and inform the police.

■ The range boundaries are marked by red and white poles. Red flags by day and red lamps by night indicate that live firing is taking place, and that you should not cross the range boundary.

THE DARTMOOR LINE

The railway arrived at Okehampton in 1871 as part of a series of extensions from Exeter into north-west Devon. However, following the Beeching railway cutbacks of the 1960s, services were withdrawn in 1972. But in November 2021 – 150 years after it first opened, nearly 50 years after it was mothballed, and 70 years since the creation of Dartmoor National Park in 1951 – passenger trains returned to The Dartmoor Line, carrying travellers from Exeter to Okehampton on the north-western edge of the moor. Visit dartmoorline.com for more details, including travel information and a full history of the line.

BIG SMOKE TO THE GREAT OUTDOORS
