SET-UP 3: TIPI TARP

-

You lose a little leg room in this configuration and it’s only really big enough for one person, but it also gives a lot of protection from the wind and a groundsheet.

■ Thread the ridgeline cord through the centre loop along one edge of the tarp and tie it between two trees at the height you want.

■ Peg out the two corners on either side of the suspended loop. Then pull out the centre tie-up point and peg that down. Peg down the loops to the left and right of it, making sure everything is taut and symmetrical.

■ Tuck the loose tarp underneath and spread it flat – this is your groundsheet.

Pitch with the wind to the side so it doesn’t blow through like a tunnel, you can use your bag or other natural shelter, like a boulder, as a windbreak.
