EDZ Boiled Wool Mittens £20

Prior to these, the last time I wore knitted woollen mittens they were attached together by a string that went up one sleeve and down the other. I was too young to actually remember it, but

I can only assume it was a traumatic experience as I’ve never been tempted by woollen mittens since. However, lots of winter climbers swear by traditional wool mittens because of their low price (winter climbers get through a LOT of gloves) and the fact they remain warm when wet. So, I’ve given these a go and, what can I say – I’m sold. They’re warm yet breathable, easy to slip over damp hands, and if I really need additional weatherproofing I slip a pair of thin shell over-mitts on top of them. But no, I will not be tying them together.

Verdict

Warm, comfortable and practical. I have a new love for these old school mitts. USED BY Ben Week, Trail senior writer
