1 SD807725 Step out of the national park car park in Horton in Ribblesdal­e and head north along the B6479. After crossing the bridge go right to pass New Inn. At the end go left and join the walled track along which the Pennine Way goes north. At Sell Gill Holes bear left then right through the gate and continue along the track finally passing through a gate below Sell Gill Hill.

2 SD810748 Go right and follow the footpath along the wall on your right. Go through the gate and cross Sell Gill Hill, then on via a second gate and wooden walkway to cross Whitber Hill, descending to meet the route of A Pennine Journey at Tarn Bar.

3 SD822742 Go left at the Tarn Bar crossing onto open moorland heading for the large limestone scar of Hull Pot.

4 SD824745 After visiting Hull Pot go south-east up a slight rise to the stone wall ahead. Cross over via the gate and follow the grassy track northeast to a wall. Follow the wall, then open moorland across Horton Moor for 2.85km until you reach the fingerpost sign for Plover Hill.

5 SD845761 Turn right across Foxup Moor and take the rocky path up to Plover Hill.

6 SD847751 Go over the wall stile on Plover Hill and follow the wall line on your left initially southwest, then after a section of boggy ground south to ascend to Pen-y-ghent.

7 SD838733 Go over the wall to the summit of Pen-y-ghent. Then retrace your steps and take the clear path north-west down the western face of the hill. After 900m take the well-made track west along the Pennine Wa,y exiting via a gate onto the track of A Pennine Journey at Tarn Bar.

8 SD822742 Go left through the gate at Tarn Bar and follow the walled track south-west to the B6479 opposite the Pen-y-ghent café.

9 SD808724 Turn right to arrive back at the national park car park in Horton in Ribblesdal­e.
