Dobwalls to Looe

-

DAY 3

SX215650 Starting in 13

Dobwalls, head south past the school leaving the village. Cross over the railway lines and continue to follow the road for the most direct route. Continue along the road to Lunghwa and as it branches off, keep to the right, following the lane to the top of the valley. The road turns into a track as it enters Liggars Wood at Scawn Mill.

SX216620 The track 14 descends into the woods and weaves between the woodlands and some open fields, before returning to the woodlands again. Follow the path that handrails the West Looe River until it meets Millcoombe Farm at the midst of several road junctions. The footpath continues to the south between the buildings at Herodsfoot. This again drops steeply down as it continues into the valley, before climbing up into the woodland again. Continue for several kilometres south until the footpath joins a road at the edge of the woodlands near a disused quarry.

SX219588 Follow the 15 road as it winds south for approximately

SX223570 The path

16 winds through the woods, bordering the edges of open fields and follows the river as it begins to widen. Again the path crosses a road and at Sowdens Bridge, it crosses the river. Keep to the road, following south. It will fork in two places, on each occasion keep to the left-hand fork and continue on the road. The road winds back towards the river and to the edge of Polzion Wood. As it leaves this section of woodland, the footpath goes south-east as the road continues south. Keep to the footpath, handrailing the river and estuary again.

SX234545 At the 17 hamlet of Watergate, the footpath ascends the hillside into Kilminorth Wood and through the nature reserve. After a sharp descent that turns away from the river, it then levels out and heads back into the area of West Looe. Follow the coastal path to the bridge and cross the river into East Looe. The rest is now all footpath and it leads directly south to Banjo Pier and the end of

our route.
