66° North Öxi Jacket £225
+ Soft, warm, comfortable
- Trim fit, questions over durability
The Öxi is a stylish jacket from Icelandic brand 66° North with hidden technical performance. It’s a hybrid mid layer that is very similar in construction and fit to Montane’s Fireball Lite. It is cut close to the body with zoned stretch panels for comfort and flexibility. However, it uses a slightly heavier weight of synthetic insulation and a thicker fleece, in the form of Polartec PowerFill (made from 100% recycled polyester) and Power Stretch fabric. This adds a little weight but also makes it warmer for long, cold days. The fabrics are super-soft, though it’s worth noting that in our experience Power Stretch tends to bobble more quickly than its tougher Polartec stablemate, Power Stretch Pro. But there’s no denying that it’s extremely comfortable. Premium details include a cosy stand-up, fleece-lined collar and a full-length zip which is fitted with an inner stormflap and a chunky double-zipper. This enables you to vent the jacket from both top and bottom if desired. You also get twin zipped hand pockets and a useful zipped inner chest pocket for secure storage. Cuffs and hem are close-fitting and slightly stretchy, keeping out draughts without the need for a tight elasticated binding.
