The Christmas and New Year celebrations with my wife and the families have been really good for me. I am a very family orientated person and believe all families should make the effort to be together, no matter how far away they are from home, at least once a year.

In between the festivities I have been out on the old ‘Push Iron’ with good friend Steve Peat to keep the fitness levels up.

My wife Emma and I are happy to tell you all that we are expecting our first child in June, which gives me extra incentive to ride well as I will certainly need the bonus payments when the baby arrives!

Sheffield did not go to plan as I can usually up my game with the superb home support, but the new FIM rules in my opinion are crazy to say the least.

The FIM X-Trial world championship series has to stay with the rules as they were in 2013. My reason behind this is so that we can continue to bring you, the paying audience, the best display of riding over the indoor man-made hazards we can offer.

When you are riding on the very demanding sections you need to use the sump to regain your balance and make sure you are inch perfect when you attack the hazard so you can remain in control. Why should you be penalised for ‘sumping out’? It’s not just a case of myself having a moan, just ask any of the other top riders and they will all tell you the same. I personally do not like the ‘Non-stop’ ruling in outdoor events but I am sure the change to this on the indoor circuit is a mistake.

As you have already seen from the images in the press I have welcomed some new sponsors on board for 2014 in the shape of Mots for helmets and gloves and Forma for boots. I gave my new paint job for 2014 its debut at Sheffield, by Lee Fareham from D-Zign, who has done a superb job. It’s a Carbon Mots helmet which carries my drinks sponsors Ice Valley logo and is very comfortable to wear. I am just hoping that the snow stays away, as if it does come like it did last year I am off to sunny Spain for some serious training!

Speak soon, Dibsta! I start 2014 with rider targets in my sights as I aim to get right back on track after a slightly disappointing season in 2013. The BTC has seven rounds and it will be a very determined ‘Dibsta’ as I want the crown (which I believe is mine) back; another win at the SSDT and Scott Trial would also be nice. If your name is Michael Brown or

Dougie Lampkin look out!
