In 2013 Steve Saunders launched a new comprehensive trials book titled: On Trial ‘A Complete Guide to the Sport of Motorcycle Trials.’ He worked closely with trials literature specialist Yoomee to produce the book.

All aspects of the sport are covered including: History, Machines; Clothing; Transport; Maintenance; Getting Started; How to Ride; Steve’s Career; and a look at famous events.

The book is priced at £19.99 plus P&P and can be ordered direct from the SXS – Saunders Extreme Sports Website: www.sxsuk.com or call: 01452 849 458.

LEARN

The lunch stop is a good time to get some banter going and to allow the arms to recover from the morning’s exertions. In many cases muscles that have never been used before have suddenly been brought into play now that better technique has allowed the rider to learn more about their riding style.

With the machines and bodies refuelled it’s back out to push things further or concentrate on another problem area. With the experience Steve has had over nearly twenty years of undertaking these schools he will know how far or how fast each rider can grasp his teachings and put them into practice.

If a demonstration of a technique is required he will hop on a machine and ride/talk his way through it, of course making it look very easy in the process. It is not uncommon for a rider or even a group to rebook lessons with Steve as they find their abilities and confidence grow after putting his advice into practice at local events or a practice session. Many people enjoy the day so much they will encourage new riders to give it a go or bring a selection of mates or family members along to a follow-up lesson. The off-road experience that Steve offers would be the perfect solution for those that have never ventured onto the ‘dirt’ before.

When you stand aside and watch one of these schools unfold it really is amazing to see the difference between the riders from when they arrived to when they leave. Steve’s easygoing way of showing, explaining and teaching seems to easily stick in the mind and, even if the rider is unaware of it, the extra confidence in their riding at the end of the day was easy to see.

Whether you have a group of riding mates who want a great day out or want one-on-one teaching, or would like to perhaps have some advanced riding technique instruction and advice give Steve Saunders a call via his SXS web site: www.sxsuk. com. Steve can cater for one to one, lessons, group schools, off-road experience days or absolute beginners classes where he will also be able to supply a machine and the appropriate safety wear so that anyone wanting to dip a toe into the trials world can see what it is all about before committing themselves, and their money, to a full setup.
