WORLD ROUNDS
With six of the eight rounds now contested in the 2014 World Trials Championship, Toni Bou on the four-stroke Honda made a significant step towards his record-breaking eighth crown. On a roll in the double-header points scoring days in Great Britain he do
WORLD PRO
Behind the leading two riders in the championship is another dramatic battle for third position. Fellow Team Honda rider Takahisa Fujinami is the only other rider this season to take a WTC win, in Australia at the start of the season, but he has Sherco mounted Albert Cabestany in front of him in the overall standings with Jeroni Fajardo on the Beta breathing down his neck in fifth position. In the defence of Japan’s ‘Fujigas’ he is riding with a damaged knee, which will require surgery as soon as the season is over, but the spirit he is showing in the fight for the final step on the podium is very brave. Great Britain’s James Dabill sits in a lonely sixth but behind him the final top ten finishing positions are going to be very close at the end of the season.
WORLD CUP
At first it looked like Spain’s Jamie Busto would walk away with the championship but Germany’s Franz Kadlec is having none of it. He wants to take the fight to Busto and he knows the gap can be closed with some consistent riding. This class is possibly the most competitive and it’s good to see some of the younger British riders putting in the effort to compete. At the head of these in the championship is Dec Bullock, but his inconsistency has been the problem. Close on his heels are Luke Walker, who had an excellent home Grand Prix, followed by Iwan Roberts, Jack Price, Andy Chilton, Jack Spencer and Billy Bolt.
YOUTH CUP
We have the first 2014 World Trials Championship crowned as Spain’s Gael Chatagno on the Sherco has given himself such a clear lead. Behind him Teo Colairo from France and Noe Pretalli on the Jotagas from Switzerland should also be guaranteed second and third. Great Britain has once again two new young riders in this class, showing huge potential, in Thomas Minta and Tom Hooper. Stuart Mack has also made his debut in this class to gain experience on the world circuit.
