One moment in time, yes a very special moment for both my wife Emma and I as at exactly 09.39 am on the 23rd June our first child, a boy we named Archie James, arrived into our world weighing in at 9 lb 10oz. Wow, it’s such a magical time as any father will tell you. Emma appeared to be waiting forever but I am so proud of her and our boy. By the time you read this it will be after my home World round at Penrith so fingers crossed I had a good day. Let’s wind the clock back first and get back on track with 2014 before it runs away.

It was the Italian round next and I wanted to put a good show on for the factory personnel at Beta. My first lap did not go to plan but came back fighting on the second and third laps to finish fifth and reclaim my sixth position in the Championship.

The week after it was a return to the BTC action with the event held at Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales. I had a very poor opening lap by my standards but came back very strong to deliver two consistent low scoring laps which gave me the win to put me at the top of the Championship table. It was then time to support Emma on the days running up to the birth of Archie as you have already read. We then had a short break in the championship before heading to Belgium and then my home round in Great Britain. On reflection, after these events I have proved that I can mix my riding with the best in the world but it’s the inconsistency which at this level of riding you need at every event. My best lap score in Great Britain was my last when I beat the top riders in the world! My lap score of six included a five mark penalty on the steep section eight. With the crowd encouraging me I so wanted that clean ride but it just did not happen. However, when you consider that Toni Bou dropped a five on it on every lap you can say I am in good company.

Before I close I would like to thank everyone who came and said hello to Emma and Archie at the WTC at Penrith, I am sure now he has heard the sound of the WTC action I can start planning for his assault on the 2030 Championship!
