Life is good at the moment as I lead both the World and British Trials Championships. Anyone who thinks this just happens is dreaming. Despite the fact that motorcycle trials is a male-dominated sport I remain very focussed on getting into the top results at all events I enter. I always enjoy the SSDT and the Scott for example. It’s just a case of remaining focussed at all times. My world may be good but I was upset to hear the news of my good friend Nikita Smith. She has suffered terrible injuries in a road accident but thankfully pulled through; note to myself to remind me never to pick a fight with her as if she used the same strength and spirit she is showing in her recovery I am sure she would win! Along with the entire trials world I wish her all the best and hope she can eventually return to compete again, as we need young riders coming through the ranks.

In the BTC I am leading the championship as it enters the last few rounds, but this does not change my approach to each of the events. What it does allow me to do is focus on my ultimate goal, which is the Ladies World Trials Championship. On the run up to the opening round in Belgium I had been out putting the Sherco through its paces on many different types of terrain. The machine is excellent and it’s just a case of fine tuning it all to suit my style. The motor is very progressive but strong when I need it to be, which suits me. I usually prepare my own machine with the help of my partner James Fry but at the WTC I have access to the factory support truck and mechanic David, who makes sure everything is okay. We travelled to Belgium in the earlier part of the week when it rained quite heavily. This was good though as we were able to train in the rain, which would eventually have such an impact on Race Day.

I approached the event in my usual manner, fully prepared for what may happen on the day. As it turned I put in a performance which none of the other riders was able to match. Stood on the top step of the podium with the national anthem playing was the sort of music I like to hear! It was also good to see the other British riders getting into the top fifteen to score WTC points. Just before I close I would once again like to thank all my sponsors and supporters. Well, that’s it for now, as I look forwards to the rest of the year.
