The fourth round of the Biketrial Federation UK’s British Trials Cup took place at Bracken Rocks near Matlock on Sunday 13th July. Robin Morewood and Nigel Shepherd had set eight challenging sections on a dry and sunny Saturday, but rain overnight rendered them very difficult for Sunday’s trial. The first-lap scores were very high as a result but conditions and scores improved on a drier lap two.

Jack Carthy (Crekwerz/Enter Bike), who seemed to be taking things easy – perhaps not wanting to risk jeopardising his World Cup campaign – took the Elite win with 29 points. Second place went to Dave Kerr (Cycle Mart), who managed to more than halve his first-lap score on lap two and finish on a total of 44, while Canada’s Jeff Anderson (Yess) riding in his first British Cup event finished in third place on 67. In the Experts, Ryan Crisp finished in first place on 46 ahead of Aaron Duke on 54 and Tom Astbury on 63.

The Cadet class is all sewn up for the season, with Charlie Rolls (Jitsie/Hope) cementing his overall series win with a convincing victory at Bracken Rocks – a perfect early birthday present to himself! Second and third went to Olly Lawer and his brother Alex. Adam Morewood (Onza/ Jitsie/Tarty Bikes) also managed to clinch a series win, his fourth win of the season on just 13 points giving him an unassailable lead in the Intermediate class. Sam Rolls finished in second on 29, ahead of Toby Smith on 39.

The Senior class was very tight at the top, with the win going to Neil Robinson on 68 ahead of Rob Rook on 69 and Darren Ring on 71. Elliot Tickner finished on 31 in the Over 15s Novice class, with Derek Coates in second on 62 and Chris Spinks in third on 69. In the Under 15s Sam Shepherd also managed to claim the overall Cup win, finishing the trial on 22 points, followed by Jamie Smith on 49 and Aspen Hopkins on 62. Charlie Cripps won the Novice class on 21 ahead of Oliver Weightman on 27 and Joshua Lawer on 62. Despite Charlie’s win at Bracken, Josh McParland maintains his overall lead and the series title. Luke Henderson won the MTB class with a score of 57.

The fifth round of the British Trials Cup is on Sunday 5th October at Shipley Glen.
