KARTING ABOUT
On my own admission, my two wheel skills on motorcycles are definitely better than my driving skills on four wheels so I was quite happy to have made it onto the podium come the end of the night. Now we all know Dougie is a big lad but to say he was slow in a go-kart is an understatement. We were eating our main course in the restaurant afterwards by the time he came across the line. In between making the most of the good weather in Spain I have been dashing all over to ride in the various FIM X-Trial competitions in Europe. It was never going to be easy but I think even if the results don’t show the full picture, my performances of late show that we are making very good progress with the machine.
Away from the motorcycles I have only managed a few days back at home to catch up with family
Once again it has been a flat out few weeks with most of my time being spent in Spain testing, training and generally keeping the Vertigo team busy as we go forward with the project. Some of the days have been long but positive and packed with plenty of banter, mainly at Dougie Lampkin’s expense, which leads me nicely into the Team Vertigo go-karting night that we recently enjoyed. Shall we say it got a little competitive as we all want to cross the finishing line and see the
chequered flag first. and friends so it was great to have Emma, Archie and my parents out to Barcelona for a few days to catch up on all what’s been going on at home. Other than that, last week I was able to sneak in a day of shopping with Dougie which was definitely better for me than him as they didn’t have much left in his size – XXL!
I have some of my own victories to mention but for now I would like to say a massive well done to Jonny Walker on taking his first overall win in the SuperEnduro World Championship and an even bigger congratulations to Toni Bou on sealing a ninth FIM X-Trial World Championship – the word ‘Legend’ comes to mind don’t you think?
The logistics for the team to provide me with a machine for the opening round of this year’s BTC was hectic to say the least. Dougie took my machines to the event whilst I contested the final round of the X-Trial on the Friday night in Spain. It was then an early flight back to the UK on Saturday morning where my parents picked me up from Heathrow airport and transported me straight to the event. As it turned out, all the effort was worthwhile as I gave the brand its first of what I hope will be many more victories. I must congratulate the team for all the hard work – well done guys!
