“You must be mad” was one of the sev­eral com­ments made when ‘Jono’ – Jonathan Blount – an­nounced he was start­ing a mo­tor­cy­cle/bike busi­ness in Not­ting­hamshire. He knew many tri­als riders who also en­joyed moun­tain bik­ing and who would be po­ten­tial cus­tomers. His years spent work­ing at a ma­jor bike-hut re­tailer had given him a good ground­ing into the ser­vice and re­pair work needed, and he planned to keep away from the cheap range of prod­ucts that oc­cu­pied many ser­vice bays and in­stead of­fer war­ranty work and con­cen­trate on value for money bikes that could be up­graded and used in anger. His thir­teen years of mo­tor­cy­cle tri­al­ing, mostly on Sherco ma­chines, had given him the back­ground for his own re­tail­ing pro­ject. His man­age­ment train­ing with En­ter­prise Car Hire was to come in use­ful, with both com­puter pro­grams and cus­tomer re­la­tions!
