GREEN IS GO

-

The Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club Ltd recently welcomed the 2015 ACU Oset British Youth B/C/D Trials Championship to Dob Park and Browns Wood near Leeds. The club added some spice to the double event, which was certainly different, and it worked. There was no messing about with triple or quadruple routes through sections as Phil Stephenson and his son Jamie, along with Paul Whitham, marked two entirely separate trials courses and split the classes. The Class B and C entry rode a tough unyielding twelve sections and three laps in the densely wooded Browns area, while the Class D girls and boys dived down into the depths of Dob Park using exactly the same format with a dozen sections and three laps. At least the youngsters experienced riding a full trials course rather than a pocket-handkerchief group of sections!

Newton Abbott’s Billy Green and Ulster’s Reece Gazzard command Class B and C categories. LLangollen member Lewis Hurdsman is at the top end of Class D small wheels, ahead of Mecatecno-mounted Morgan Shepherd. A good ride by Charlie Crossland bettered Morgan and gave Lewis more breathing space even after a poor opening lap, by his standards, of eighteen, while winner George Hemingway was on sixteen.

In Class D medium wheels Buxton’s Aston Brightmore rode his Beta to a clear convincing fourth championship victory, where only Oset electric-mounted Dominic Horne split the five Beta mounted contenders. Brightmore is on a maximum points haul and well clear of Josh McParland. Billy Green knew he was in for a fight on Saturday with Bradford’s Colin Appleyard Motorcycles-sponsored runner on the Beta, Kieran Child, who was fresh from his Mintex result where he scooped the majority of awards, for many reasons. The RCM Betasponsored Green just got his head down and delivered his fourth Class B victory, only foiled on home ground at Bullaton Farm in May by Child.

As far as the 2015 championship is concerned, Green holds the ace card in the pack at the moment. His remarkable skills, for his age, have contributed to his success story. He is eighteen points ahead of Child and Geordie Jack Biggins. The acid test will be the Richmond Trial on August 30 and the finale at the dreaded Bracken Rocks in Derbyshire on October 11.
