EMMA BRISTOW

- WORDS: EMMA AND JONNY PICTURES: TIM TIGHE AND MARK WALTERS (FIM GALA)

Many years ago, when my parents realised that I wanted to ride off-road motorcycles, we started on the adventure that would take me to the very top of motorcycle sport. It’s been a tough old journey, there have been tears and tough times, but I can stand so proud now as a four times Off-road

Motorcycle World Champion – yes, I am very proud.

After my antics at the Scott Trial just one more event remained for 2015, the FIM Gala awards presentation, to which I was invited to collect my fourth gold medal in November; I have won two for Trials and two for SuperEnduro. It was held at the Teatro Villamarta in the Spanish city of Jerez. To be amongst the best riders in the world during the celebration of world champions is something special. My partner James and I travelled to Spain and enjoyed a really exciting evening, with the icing on the cake being the presentation, which made me realise the enormity of what I had achieved in the world of motorcycling.

It was a move to the Sherco enduro machine for my first race of 2016, which was round one of the ACU British Extreme Enduro Championship. With the very wet weather we have been experiencing I knew the venue at Parkwood Offroad, Tong, near Leeds would be very wet. On a different note this will be the venue for the very first Ladies’ World Trials round to be held in July, so let’s just hope it will be a little drier!

Riding the MRS Sherco 300cc four-stroke I had the usual dramas of racing, including a big crash down the waterfall on the last lap, but completed seven laps to finish in 18th in my class and 27th position overall as David Knight completed ten laps to take the win. My training will now focus around the Sherco trials machine.

The two motorcycling disciplines, trials and enduro, are so far apart that I feel it’s easier to concentrate on one at a time. The training will now continue in the sunnier climate of Spain as I move out there for a month to beat the winter weather in England – I hope!
