BUILT FOR EXPERTS

-

Honda boasted that the production Honda TL 250 was engineered by winners and built for expert riders. Yes Sammy Miller was the name associated with the brand, but in all fairness it was nothing better than a good trail machine manufactured to suit the American market. Miller moved from Bultaco to Honda in April 1974. He had signed a contract with Honda to develop a new range of trials machines. He started working with the XL250 engine but soon found that the 250 motor needed much work to adapt it from trail to trials needs. The XL based engine was bullet proof and all the components of superb quality. Its overall weight would also let it down against its two-stroke counterparts but, as with anything good, it found its place in the market with the enthusiast who just loved the low noise and smooth ride from this wellengineered machine. It was never an officially imported machine into the UK market. In 1975 the TL250 production started. Honda produced roughly 4,000 machines, mostly for the American market.
