2016 Pre-65 SSDT
Montesa has announced new features for its Race Replica and 4RT260 Cota 2017 models, which will become available in September. The aesthetic level of the 4RT260 Cota is the most significant change, leaving red as the main colour changing to an elegant white combined with details in blue and red. The fuel tank is aluminium, which gives an important air of ‘sportiness’.
Cosmetic changes are also noticed in the TECH fork, where the slider is now chrome with black bottoms. The ‘M’ of Montesa is now located on the rear mudguard, which gives it more presence, but basically it still maintains the aesthetics of the Repsol Honda Team machines ridden by Toni Bou, Takahisa Fujinami and Jaime Busto.
Both models now share the longer kick-start lever from the Cota 300R but still use the same 260cc four-stroke engine from last year, which has benefited from a remarkable increase in power thanks to the adoption of a new fuel pump that provides a better flow of fuel. This factor together with the mapping of the ECU gives a power curve suited to low and medium engine speeds and a minimal effect of engine braking, making the motorcycle feel much lighter and controllable.
The Race Replica model maintains the prestigious Showa front and rear suspension. For the 4RT260 Cota the suspension is of a high level, with the front suspension from TECH while the rear relies on a multi-adjustable R16V damper, effectively resulting in a greater sense of lightness. The trial has been hailed a very successful and enjoyable event. That is the general consensus by all who kindly took the time to write or contact the club to thank us for our efforts in putting on such an excellent event. The new minibus service to the lochside sections operated by Kinlochleven Primary School was a massive success and they were delighted with the proceeds from their venture.
The club would like to thank all who used the service and they hope it will become a regular feature for the trial as it proved to ease parking congestion at some of the sections where parking is difficult. As always the club would like to thank the sponsors Putoline, Hope Technology, Kia Motors and REH Forks for their support and to all the observers and officials who, without their help, the trial would not happen. Dates for the 2017 Trial are Friday 28 and Saturday 29 April 2017. Entry forms for the 2017 trial will be available to download from www.ssdt.org around 1 October 2016.
