AS GOOD AS GOLD

-

With their male counterparts starting the 2016 World Trials Championship way back in April, it was the turn of the women who arrived at the new Tong venue with a strong entry of thirty five riders in mid-July. The terrain was a selection of very natural hazards scattered around the compact 4.5 kilometre course containing twelve hazards to be ridden over two laps. The weather was very kind over the two days of action with warm dry weather leading to the hazards riding a little on the easier side on day one before five of them were modified on day two. Defending Champion, Emma Bristow, was as good as gold taking two convincing wins DAY ONE: With the hazards riding very well it did not really challenge defending Champion, Emma Bristow, who parted with just two marks, one on each of the two laps on section three to take a clear victory over her career long challenger Becky Cook on the new TRS. Spain’s new SuperEnduro World Champion, Sandra Gomez, was expected to push these two but she finished the day just behind Cook on ten marks lost. DAY TWO: Once again Emma Bristow was in a dominant mood taking another victory from Cook to secure an early lead in the overall championship. The surprise of the day though was sixteen year old Berta Abellan who just edged out her fellow Spanish rider Sandra Gomez to take her maiden trip to the podium coming home in third position as the modified hazards pushed the finishing scores up for all the entry.
