TTaking the sport of trials to another level in Great Britain the ‘Supertrial’ theme, using the full stop-allowed rules which allows the rider to be able to traverse in a rearward direction as long as the feet remain on the footrests, has proved a huge success. This is not just with the riders but also with the public, who have attended these events in their hundreds to watch this SuperSport. hree events have been promoted this year, with Scarborough & DMCC hosting the first of them earlier in the summer months. The next stop would be the North Berk’s MCC at its Seymour’s Arena venue. This event has been a benchmark for the ‘Supertrial’ theme over the years and this year once again proved as popular as ever.
Saturday was run as the Ladies’ Championship over one day, where Emma Bristow successfully defended her crown in front of Becky Cook. The biggest cheer went up though for the very brave Nickita Smith, who is literally finding her feet again after a very serious road traffic accident looked like it had ended her trials career, and she took the final step on the podium.
The club also organised a sidecar demonstration to keep the entertainment flowing.
Race day for their male counterparts would be on the Sunday. Under sometimes overcast skies, a battle soon emerged involving the new breed of young riders with the experienced Michael Brown interrupting them. Welsh champion Iwan Roberts took a well-deserved victory in the final from Brown, followed by Jack Sheppard and an off-form Jack Price.
It was the very unforgiving and natural terrain of the Addingham Moorside venue where the Yeadon & Guiseley MCC invited the riders to perform for round three. The day went very well and the weather was very kind, which attracted a good strong supportive crowd who cheered the brave efforts of the riders. It was Jack Price and James Dabill who locked horns all the way through the qualifying process to the final where young Price took the victory and the scalp of his friend Dabill, much to the young rider’s delight.
What this three-round series has achieved is to take the sport to the spectator, and it deserves to be recognised as a full championship with riders scoring points in 2017 when we can then have an officially crowned Supertrial British Champion.
