Set­ting the pace with an open­ing score that gave him the ad­van­tage over his ri­vals, Spain’s Gabriel Mar­celli on the four-stroke Mon­tesa parted with 29 marks to give him a four-mark vic­tory ahead of the cham­pi­onship leader Iwan Roberts. The star of the sec­ond lap was Marc Riba, who pulled him­self back up the order with a lap score of five fol­lowed by Roberts on six. Luca Pe­trella came home third de­spite five time penal­ties. The ever im­prov­ing Toby Mar­tyn had another ma­ture ride to edge out Riba for fourth po­si­tion. In a shock re­sult and rid­ing on home soil in France last week’s win­ner in An­dorra Gael Chatagno dis­ap­point­ingly slipped to tenth. Ris­ing to the sup­port from his home crowd, Fa­bien Poirot on the Gas Gas parted with 26 marks to take a pop­u­lar home win with a nar­row one-mark vic­tory from the Ital­ian Lorenzo Gan­dola on the Scorpa. De­spite a very poor qual­i­fi­ca­tion which gave him a dif­fi­cult start­ing po­si­tion he now has a series lead that, bar­ring any dis­as­ters, should give him the ti­tle above Great Bri­tain’s Billy Green. With the marks quite close af­ter the first lap Poirot com­pleted his sec­ond lap for a mere four marks to seal the vic­tory.
