RULE BRITANNIA

What a proud moment for team Great Britain. The ACU riders rode on the crest of a ‘Rule Britannia’ wave to dominate this opening round in Italy. As riders introduced to motorcycle trials through the superb OSET electric machines were Jack Dance (GASGAS-GBR), who took the win on day one with Harry Turner (Scorpa-GBR) winning on day two. The level of riding is once again very high, and it was a battle of nerves to find winners, as both Harry Hemingway (Beta-GBR) and Ben Dignan (VertigoGBR) joined the top two in taking good championship points at the season opener.

ITALY, ROUND 1

With close to 30 riders entered in this 125cc class, it was not just the hazards that were difficult to deal with but also the constant heat for the young riders. Moreover, with steep hazards over the rocks in the sections, it proved quite a tough two days for the smaller-capacity machines as we witnessed some superb riding.

DAY ONE

Who would be the ones to perform in 2021? Well, we were soon to find out, and it was Jack Dance (GASGAS-GBR) who would take control of the opening lap despite two fives, including a stop in the final section and another single mark lost, to lead on 11.

David Fabian was showing good form, losing 12, as he kept Harry Hemingway at bay, who had gone through a difficult patch on sections five, six and seven, which added 13 marks to his total of 16 to finish the opening lap in third. However, as Dance continued to control the second lap on his way to the win, he was coming under attack from Hemingway, whose total for the lap of eight secured the second step on the podium.

As Fabian did enough to secure the final step on the podium, Harry Turner came totally under the radar to put in the best lap of the day with a total of seven compared to his opening lap of 24!

With the experienced Michael Brown guiding him through the sections, he just got better with each section he rode, to be the only rider to not part with a costly five-mark penalty.

DAY TWO

It was without a doubt a proud ‘Union Jack’ day as Harry Turner (Scorpa-GBR) was in fantastic form. He took the win in front of the eventual championship leader Jack Dance after a stunning second lap once again. The opening lap witnessed yet another ‘Battle of Britain’, only interrupted by Spain’s Adria Mercade, who took the lead on the first lap. Behind him and queuing up to win were Dance at 12, Turner 13, a much more confident Ben Dignan on 14 with Hemingway on 15; it was that close.

Raising his game and rising to the occasion, it was to be Harry Turner’s day. Once again, he eclipsed everyone with a second-lap score of eight marks lost to put him into the elite group of riders who can claim to be world round winners – well done that man!
