OH SO CLOSE
Wow, where do you begin with Trial2? With four winners, three rounds down and six pointsscoring days, it is oh so close at the top as Pablo Suarez (Montesa-ESP) and Sondre Haga (Beta-NOR) tie on 98 points.
Suarez on the Montesa has been the sensation of the series with three round wins, two in Spain and one in Germany, which gives him the advantage on the four-stroke. Haga has yet to hit the top spot of the podium but he remains close to his rival as the only rider on the podium at all of the six rounds; will consistency see him through in the second half of the season?
It was a huge redemption day for Great Britain’s hungry young rider Billy Green (Scorpa) in Andorra. Sensationally disqualified on a technicality with his minder after posting the lowest score on day two in 2021, he went out and won on day one this year. He was absolutely delighted, as were many of his followers; it was well deserved.
Slowly but surely, the confidence is coming for Billy, but he knows he needs to visit the podium more if he is
to get close enough to challenge Suarez and Haga for the title.
The other individual round winners are Lorenzo Gandola (Beta-ITA) in Andorra and Arnau Farre (Sherco-ESP) in Germany on day two. This rounds off the top five positions, with the top 15 in this class staying so competitive. If you look at the winning scores in the majority of the rounds, they are quite low. This is not a reflection of the severity of the sections but the competitive level of riding. It’s also worth noting the progress of Gael Chatagno (Electric Motion-FRA), the only electric rider. Excuse the pun, but he was electric in Spain with a shock fourth position, looking very confident. With the FIM TrialE Class now finished, he has opted to ride in the Trial2 class; his tenth position in the championship standings speaks volumes for the French manufacturer’s progress in developing electric machines. Chatagno can also ride pretty well, as we have already seen.
