TOBY ATTACKS
Despite its introduction in 2022 to reverse the order of starting positions, where the winner from the previous round in ACU Trial GB class will be the first rider to start, followed by the other riders’ finishing positions, meant the fight for supremacy remains between the current championship leader Jack Peace and the defending champion Toby Martyn on the TRRS.
With six rounds contested, Jack and Toby have three round wins and three extra points for the best-lap scores. The twopoint championship lead the younger of the two Peace brothers holds is the result of the second-place finish from older brother Dan in the Lake District round held at Torver as he pushed Martyn into third. Of the last four rounds, the Lake District event proved to be on the low-scoring side, leaving no room for error, whilst Addingham Moorside near Silsden is always a hard venue, reflected in the winning score of 30 marks lost. The move to the Devon double header and the exposed Peter Tavey venue was again affected by rain and wind, resulting in a tough day’s riding on the rocks and mud, with Martyn’s winning score of 53 marks lost the highest of the year.
At the heavily wooded area of Kelly’s Farm near Newton Abbot, it was Martyn who rose to the occasion, knowing he needed to win to keep his championship hopes alive. Using all his skill, he took a clear victory from Jack Peace.
The remaining two rounds, one in Yorkshire and the final in Wales, should prove very interesting in the fight for the premier title on the UK trials scene; these are two totally different venues.
Dan Peace holds a strong third position as Billy Green (Scorpa) looks for that elusive first podium of 2022, followed by the newcomer in this class Jack Dance who is learning all the time on the GASGAS.
