ROBERTS REMAINS STRONG
With four winners from the opening six rounds, a strong Iwan Roberts (TRRS) holds the lead over a very determined young Harry Hemingway (Beta).
The opening two wins in this class came from the vastly experienced Sam Connor (Beta), who remains consistent, and Ross Danby (TRRS), whose primary focus in 2022, moved to Enduro.
Losing out on the most cleans to Roberts in round three in a tense low-scoring event at Torver inspired Hemingway to his first win in Trial 2 on home ground in Yorkshire. He knew a win was needed if he was to maintain his 2022 championship challenge and duly delivered as Harry Turner (Scorpa) made his first podium appearance in this class in third.
Using his vast experience Iwan Roberts made it to the top spot on the podium on a difficult day in the high-scoring Peter Tavey round with a clear win in front of his rival as a new name appeared on the podium with Chris Stay (TRRS) taking the final spot.
On the second day of the Devon ‘double header’, they traded
places again, but this time it was Harry Hemingway on the top spot with Roberts second and a return to the podium for Turner. With two wins each, Roberts still holds the overall championship lead with the points advantage gained in the opening two rounds.
A newcomer to the class in 2022, Scorpa rider Harry Turner continues to improve to hold third position in front of Oliver Smith (TRRS), with the first-round winner Sam Connor in fifth. But, no doubt, all eyes will be on Roberts and Hemingway in the final two rounds in the fight for the 2022 championship.
